UMAP2011. [August 22, 2011]
UMAP was a great conference this year. In particular the keynote by Paul Resnik was very inspiring: Personalized Filters Yes; Bubbles No. The presentation culminated in the Better Personalization Athem sung by the whole audience: "User models set me free / as you build the daily me / yes, exploit, but please explore / could just be that I want more / boraden what my models know / UMAP scholars make it so". If you watch closely you can see me singing in this video.
NCI Tennis Tournament [July 2, 2011]
The NCI Tennis Tournament took place on July 2, 2011 in Donnybrook. Given that I haven't played in about 20 years (!), I am proud to report that I won a medal for "Best Effort".
Haste makes waste. [December 4, 2010]
It took us more than seven years to write this article: a comprehensive review of "Layered Evaluation of Interactive Adaptive Systems: Framework and Formative Methods". Alexandros Paramythis, Judith Masthoff and myself were talking about writing this paper for a long time, but never got around to do it. According to one of the reviewers "this paper should arguably be required reading for anyone involved in User Modeling and User Adapted Interaction".
